Irish pension managed funds saw further gains during March, returning 1.9% on average over the month. Aberdeen Standard Investments topped the table over the third month of the year, with a return of 2.5%, while New Ireland lagged the peer group over the month, with a return of 0.7%.
This bright end to the quarter consolidated gains earned in January and February, resulting in the best average quarterly performance in four years. Over the first three months of 2019, Irish pension managed funds gained 10.5% on average. Zurich Life gained the most ground over the first quarter, with a return of 11.6%, while Setanta Asset Management gained the least, with a return of 9.5%. Over the past twelve months, Irish pension managed funds have delivered 7.7% on average. Returns for the past year ranged from 11.1% (Davy Asset Management) to 3.6% (Merrion Investment Managers).
The average managed fund return has been a respectable 7.3% per annum over the past three years. The five-year average return is an even healthier 8.1% per annum. Irish group pension managed fund returns over the past ten years have been a whopping 10.9% per annum on average.
